KSE 100 chart: how to read it, from 1D to ALL
How to read the KSE 100 chart: candles, ranges, log vs linear, the 189,166.83 record close and the 22.6% fall to March 2026. Free in SuperX Charts.
A KSE-100 chart (KSE 100 chart kaise parhein) draws the level of the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s benchmark index, one bar for each period. On a daily bar, the open is the index level at the start of the session and the close is its level at the end, so the body of the candle shows the direction of the day. In SuperX Charts, daily bars run from 15 September 2016, and a log scale suits that long range. As of the 9 October 2026 close, the KSE-100 stood at 167,089.27. That is 11.67% below its record close of 189,166.83 on 23 January 2026. You can open the KSE-100 chart free, with no account.
What does one candle mean on a KSE-100 chart?
A candle for a share shows four prices: the open, the high, the low and the close. A candle for an index shows four index levels in the same way. The index is not a price you can pay. PSX calculates it through the session from the prices of its 100 member companies, as what the KSE-100 is explains. The chart treats each computed level as a price.
On a one-day candle:
- The open is the first level of the session and the close is the last.
- The body is the stretch between open and close. In SuperX Charts a green candle closed above its open and a red candle closed below it.
- The wicks are the thin lines that reach the day’s high and low.
Two real KSE-100 days, from the SuperX market snapshot (last session 9 October 2026), show the body at work:
| Session | Open | Close | Body | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23 Jan 2026 (record close) | 187,926.50 | 189,166.83 | +1,240.33 points (+0.66% of the open) | 407,933,410 |
| 9 Mar 2026 (lowest close after the record) | 150,174.10 | 146,480.15 | -3,693.95 points (-2.46% of the open) | 378,012,095 |
Notice what the colour does not say. The 9 March candle is red because it closed below its open. But the session had already opened 4.65% below the previous close of 157,496.10 on 6 March. The day change in the legend measures the close against the previous close, and the colour measures the close against the open. They can disagree on the same day.
There is one limit for indexes. The index record does not always print a high and a low. The SuperX Charts guide says the chart draws index candles only where the exchange’s record has a high and a low, and draws a line elsewhere. The snapshot behind this website holds open, close and volume for each KSE-100 session and no high or low, so a wick may be missing from older sessions. SuperX Charts never makes up a range from the open and the close. Read the getting started guide for how the legend and the chart type menu work.
Which ranges and intervals does the KSE-100 chart have?
The KSE-100 chart uses daily bars and longer. PSX publishes the index level through the session, but SuperX Charts does not serve index bars below one day today, so the intraday intervals are greyed out for an index.
| Setting | What the KSE-100 chart offers |
|---|---|
| Intervals | 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month |
| Ranges on a daily chart | 1M, 3M, 6M, 1Y, 2Y, 5Y and ALL in Pro; 1M, 6M, 1Y, 5Y and ALL in Simple |
| Ranges on a weekly or monthly chart | ALL only |
| Not offered for an index | 1-, 5-, 15- and 30-minute bars, 1-, 2- and 4-hour bars, and the 1D and 1W ranges |
ALL is ten years of daily bars here: 2,495 sessions from 15 September 2016 to 9 October 2026 in the snapshot. The index itself is older. PSX introduced the KSE-100 in November 1991 at a base of 1,000 points, according to the index brochure, which makes today’s level about 167 times its base. SuperX Charts does not draw those first 25 years.
An index chart is not refreshed while it is open. The badge in the bottom-left corner reads DELAYED, and a reload fetches the latest close. For a share the badge reads LIVE while the market is open.
A weekly candle covers the sessions of one week, so its body runs from the first session’s open to the last session’s close. A monthly candle does the same for a month. Use them to see the shape of a year without the noise of 250 daily candles. Try the weekly view: KSE-100, weekly, ALL.
Should you use a log or a linear scale for the KSE-100?
On a linear scale, equal distances on the axis mean equal numbers of points. On a log scale, equal distances mean equal percentage moves. For an index that rose from about 40,000 to about 167,000 points, the difference is large.
| A 10% move at this level | Points |
|---|---|
| 40,216.35 (first close in the SuperX history, 15 Sep 2016) | 4,021.64 |
| 100,000 | 10,000.00 |
| 167,089.27 (9 Oct 2026 close) | 16,708.93 |
The same 10% is about 4.2 times bigger in points at today’s level than it was in 2016, so on a linear chart it looks far bigger. That makes the early years look flat. The KSE-100 closed between 27,228.80 (25 March 2020) and 52,876.46 (24 May 2017) on every session from 2016 to the end of 2022. On a linear ALL chart that band takes 15.8% of the height between the lowest and highest close in the series. On a log chart it takes 34.2%. The index closed at 40,420.45 on 30 December 2022 and 174,054.32 on 31 December 2025, a rise of 4.31 times in three years. A linear chart squeezes the years before that rise into a narrow strip, and a log chart gives each year the same weight.
How to switch in SuperX Charts:
- Press L, or click Log in the status bar under the chart.
- Or open the price scale menu and choose Scale: log.
- Or open this link, which sets the scale in the address: KSE-100, daily, ALL, log.
A log chart has a trap. The axis labels are no longer evenly spaced in points, so do not read a gap as a fixed number of points. Check which scale is lit before you measure.
What do the record high and the recent drawdown look like?
A drawdown is the fall from a previous peak to a later low, measured here on closing levels. The figures below are from the SuperX snapshot, as of 9 October 2026:
| Measure | Level | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Record close in the series | 189,166.83 | 23 Jan 2026 |
| Lowest close after the record | 146,480.15 | 9 Mar 2026 |
| Fall from record to that low | -22.57% | |
| Latest close | 167,089.27 | 9 Oct 2026 |
| Latest close against the record | -11.67% | |
| Latest close against the March low | +14.07% |
These are dated numbers and the index has moved since. The live level is on the KSE-100 page and the monthly and yearly returns are on the KSE-100 performance page.
One point on what the line contains. PSX describes the headline KSE-100 as a total return index, in which dividends, bonus shares and rights are adjusted in the constituents. The price-return version, KSE100PR, leaves out gross cash dividends. The brochure gives both definitions. A drawdown on the KSE-100 line therefore includes the effect of dividends. On the KSE100PR line the same period is deeper: its lowest close after the record was 30 March 2026, 23.78% below its record.
To measure a fall on the chart, use the Measure tool in Pro. It reads the points, the percent and the number of bars between two clicks. On a log chart, read the percent and not the points, because equal heights mean equal percentages.
Does the KSE-100 chart show volume and breadth?
Volume: yes. SuperX Charts draws a volume pane under the index with a 20-session average line, and volume is on in every Simple preset. The number comes from the exchange’s index record. Check the exchange’s own definition on psx.com.pk for exactly what it counts, because an index volume is not the volume of one company. Compare it with its own average rather than with a share’s volume.
| Session | KSE-100 volume |
|---|---|
| 23 Jan 2026 (record close) | 407,933,410 |
| 9 Mar 2026 (low close) | 378,012,095 |
| 9 Oct 2026 | 109,911,732 |
| Average of the 20 sessions to 9 Oct 2026 | about 179,252,000 |
The last session to 9 October traded about 61% of its own 20-session average. That is a measurement of one day, not a reading of the market.
Breadth: no. SuperX Charts does not draw advance-decline lines or “percent of shares above a moving average” for the index today. Breadth needs market-wide history for every share on every day. The Pulse panel does list the shares at their price limits, the shares with unusual volume and the new 52-week highs and lows, as facts for the latest session. Read the Pulse and PSX facts guide for what it lists.
To add the volume pane through a link, use KSE-100, one year, with volume.
How do you compare the KSE-100 with the KMI-30 and the All Share?
Open Compare in the Pro top bar, or press C, and type a symbol. The chart holds up to five compare symbols. Each draws as a percent change on its own axis, rebased at the first bar in view, so all lines start at zero and the gaps between them are real differences. The compare and layouts guide has the steps. One link does it for two indices: KSE-100 with KMI-30 and All Share. Open the share pages of KMI-30, All Share and KSE-30 for each one’s own caption.
The table below uses closing levels from the snapshot, as of 9 October 2026. The one-year change runs from the 10 October 2025 close.
| Index | Close, 9 Oct 2026 | One year | Highest close in the ten-year history | Below that high |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KSE-100 | 167,089.27 | +2.45% | 189,166.83 (23 Jan 2026) | -11.67% |
| KMI-30 | 240,372.43 | +0.86% | 269,497.03 (23 Jan 2026) | -10.81% |
| KSE All Share | 101,117.39 | +1.85% | 113,265.46 (20 Jan 2026) | -10.73% |
| KSE-30 | 49,841.70 | -0.68% | 58,207.71 (23 Jan 2026) | -14.37% |
The indices differ in what they hold. The KMI-30 holds only Shariah-compliant companies, the KSE-30 holds 30 large liquid companies, and the All Share covers the whole listed market. KSE-100 vs KMI-30 explains the screens, and the KMI-30 index page has its own history.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a live KSE 100 chart?
SuperX Charts draws the KSE-100 with daily bars. An index chart is not refreshed while it is open, so the badge says DELAYED. Reload the page for the latest close.
Why does the KSE-100 chart show a line and not candles?
Candles need a high and a low for the session. Where the exchange’s index record has none, SuperX Charts draws a line through the closes and does not invent a range.
How far back does the KSE-100 chart go in SuperX Charts?
Daily bars start in 2016: the snapshot behind this page begins on 15 September 2016. The index itself began in November 1991 at 1,000 points.
Can I see KSE-100 minute or hourly candles?
Not today. An index has daily, 2-day, 3-day, weekly and monthly bars, and the intraday intervals are greyed out. Company shares do have minute and hourly bars.
Is the KSE-100 chart free?
Yes. SuperX Charts is free today and needs no account. The KSE-100 share page opens the chart.
